Seafood chowder with brown soda bread is Cobh's dish, poured within sight of the ship, ideally in a pub with a fiddle in the corner and a Beamish tap (Cork's own stout: ordering it over the Dublin brand earns visible approval).

Old Church Cemetery & the Lusitania graves

25-min uphill walk or short taxi north of town

The quiet green slope where 169 Lusitania victims lie, mass graves marked by three plain stones. Moving, tended, and visited by a fraction of a percent of cruisers: for the history-minded, the most honest half-hour in the port.

The old Scots Church above the station; small entry

The volunteer-run local collection in a hilltop church: emigration letters, Lusitania relics, regatta silver, harbour models. Small, sincere and the right fifteen minutes for completists between the big two museums.

Cuskinny Marsh & the shore walk east

~25-min flat walk east along the water from town

The locals' stroll: a bird-rich marsh reserve and pebble shore with harbour views back toward the cathedral and your ship. Herons, oystercatchers, zero coach parties. The free decompress after the Titanic rooms.

Cork city by pier-side train

Station attached to the cruise pier; every ~30 min, 25 min, ~€7-10 return

The easiest city connection in cruising: harbour views the whole ride into Ireland's confident second city. Kent station to the centre is a 15-minute riverside walk. Half a day does Cork's greatest hits with change to spare.

The English Market, Cork

Victorian food halls trading since 1788: spiced beef, farmhouse cheeses, buttered eggs, and the Farmgate Cafe on the gallery for the market-sourced lunch. Queen Elizabeth's famous 2011 walkabout happened here; the fishmonger who made her laugh still dines out on it.

The 600-year-old keep where kissing a battlement stone (backwards, over a drop, gripping iron rails, staff holding your ribs) confers eloquence. The gardens are genuinely superb: poison garden included. Honest maths: 5-6 hours door to door, queues to an hour in season. Earliest start or skip with pride: Cork folk will tell you the gift of the gab is caught locally anyway.

Jameson Distillery Midleton (long calls)

Train/taxi via Cork or direct taxi ~25 min; tours ~€25-32

The true home of Irish whiskey production: the historic Midleton distillery with the world's largest pot still and generous tastings. Where the actual Jameson is made (Dublin's Bow St is the heritage site). A 4-5 hour round trip: long calls, arranged transport, appointed driver.
